So there's this quote that I read a few weeks ago and I feel it relates to the way I dress.
Minimalism is not a style, it is an attitude, a way of being. It's a fundamental reaction against noise, visual noise, disorder, vulgarity. Minimalism is the pursuit of the essence of things, not the appearance. -Massimo Vignelli
Whenever we have to talk about style I always say that mine is simple. I feel quite uncomfortable piling on accessories, wearing busy prints, funky headgear or crazy shoes. I always believe that style is subjective so I have nothing against people who do... It's just that I like things to be easy to understand and that includes the clothes I wear.
*Except boots, no matter how simple in style, will always be incomprehensible to the Filipino male mind. Attended a party last week to have a table of boys shouting 'Winter ba?' at me.
I guess that's why I count Alexa Chung as such an icon. That girl can wear the simplest outfit and still show off her personality. She never overdoes anything and never tries too hard. I love that she shows that you can be fashionable without throwing on every damn trend that comes your way. She's a rockstar.
It's a total bonus that she has a slightly guy-ish voice, a wicked sense of humor and cutely unkempt hair. You can just tell she's the kind of girl you can have a beer with-which, in my opinion, is the best kind!
Do you guys like how I am blending into the tree? I've been wearing a lot of brown lately. Which is weird because 1) I used to think that color was a major snooze and 2) my accessories are all brown so I look terribly redundant. But with 'spring' around the corner I plan to inject a few pastel pieces into my wardrobe. I've also been stocking up on cropped tops like it is nobody's business.
Anyway allow me to digress. Let's talk beverages! Now I never caught on the big yogurt wave but I can't help but be grateful for the new 'food trend': milk tea! When my family went to Hongkong a few years ago I discovered that their McDonalds sold milk tea. I was hooked! I would stop at every McDonalds we walked by (every.single.one) just to buy one. If I passed 10 McDonalds restaurants in one day then you can bet I was bloated with 10 milk teas.
Have you guys been to Happy Lemon in Greenhills? The store is so fun and fresh. Is it pathetic that I kept the cute cup after I finished drinking? I just really appreciate the design, okay? And I promise I washed it!
