I spent my summer hols as a human Baedeker for my siblings' first trip to Europe. Background reading—Our Island Story by H.E. Marshall (lifesaver!) and A History of Britain by Antonia Fraser—map navigating, language interpreting, currency conversion mental calculating, photo taking... you name it, I had to do it. But what FUN.
I'll likely write more detailed travel posts on No Modern Ariadne, but here are some of my favourite photos. Mostly ones on those rare sunny days.
And yes, I think we did spend too much time in old churchyards. :))

Isn't my sister pretty?!
Post title taken from Norman MacCaig's poem, November Night, Edinburgh.
A wears clothes that weren't warm enough.
Ohoho, I love these photos... they're just all so pretty! I especially like the one of the text on the wall and the three gravestones together.
ReplyDeleteThese photos are very well taken, A! Now I want to go to Europe, it's so beautiful! *_*
ReplyDeleteScotland looks so amazing! And I love your red beret! <3

I love Edinburgh! Is that in Greyfriar's courtyard?
ReplyDeleteI went to Greyfriars but these particular photos are from the East Preston, Old Calton, and Canongate Kirk. My brother and I LOVED Edinburgh and hope that we can go back soon!
DeleteLooks like it was a beautiful day! I've only ever been to Edinburgh once before (I went to the Fringe Festival) and it is officially one of my favourite places EVER.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had fun!
Completely missed that you were coming to Europe! Edinburgh looks glorious, and actually sunny. I need to visit soon.
ReplyDeleteYou should! I cheated and posted only photos of sunny days. For 80% of the trip I was soaked to the skin and freezing. :)) I didn't know I was going either! My mom had to use up her miles and she wanted my siblings to get some 'cultural experience'. I probably won't be back for at least two years but we should meet up then!
DeleteGorgeous, gorgeous pictures - you've really captured the spirit of Edinburgh. I lived in Glasgow for a while and miss it terribly! This post gave me a nostalgic moment, thank you x
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! You guys look like you are in Disneyland!

Nothing wrong with spending too much time in churchyards - I am a massive fan of Old Brompton in London... My sister's studying in Edinburgh and I keep meaning to go and visit, so thank you for making me want to go even more!!
